The Giving After Thanksgiving

This is what the Lord has commanded: ‘Gather of it, each one of you, as much as he can eat. You shall each take an omer, according to the number of the persons that each of you has in his tent.’” And the people of Israel did so. They gathered, some more, some less. But when they measured it with an omer, whoever gathered much had nothing left over, and whoever gathered little had no lack. Each of them gathered as much as he could eat. And Moses said to them, “Let no one leave any of it over till the morning.” But they did not listen to Moses. Some left part of it till the morning, and it bred worms and stank. And Moses was angry with them.

-Exodus 16:16-20

Since November is the month of Thanksgiving God has been leading me through scripture to really study and understand the significance of Thanksgiving.  If you aren't already you can follow me on youtube where I have put together a thanksgiving challenge for the month of November . I’ll leave the information below .

Everyday we go about our day not taking into account the little things. Such as God’s provision , every single day God provides for us. We never go a day lacking anything essential. Both physically and spiritually, food being one of them. Every day God has provided for us food in our homes to eat so that we may not go hungry and water to drink so that we may not go thirsty . As Thanksgiving is approaching many of us will be with family and friends, sitting around telling stories and enjoying the company. We’ll have our houses filled with a beautiful aroma of many different smells coming from our kitchen. We’ll sit in our nice clothes, heated homes , and tables filled with food and guests and go on about our days.

When God led the Children of Israel into the wilderness , he never ever left them to fend for themselves. The children of Israel spent 40 Years in the wilderness and throughout the entire 40 Years God provided for them everything that they needed. Did you hear what I said FORTY- YEARS God provided from them in the wilderness.

The children of Israel always complained and were never grateful for anything, but everytime the children of Israel had a need God provided. Much like us right? When they complained about not having food God rained from heaven Manna. God gave them something special just for them that would never be available again for anyone else. They didn’t even have to work to grow and cultivate it . God put them to the test and commanded them to not gather more than they needed , if they did then it would spoil. God was teaching them how to be selfless, thankful and dependent on him and of course they failed! They would get greedy, go out and gather more than they needed , save it for later and it would spoil. They were very wasteful.

As I was cleaning my home I realized how similar I was as the Children Of Israel. I never really took into account all of the things I had in my home. I brought things to eat and materialistic things and had so much left over. Things I had never eaten or used went to waste. Meanwhile there are others wishing and begging to have the things I have or had. Things that I could have given to someone in need.

As thanksgiving approaches I just wanted to send a reminder your way to be thankful this thanksgiving for all you have but to not let your thanks giving stop . Let your thanks giving extend beyond thanksgiving for the rest of your lives. Let it be your lifestyle. After all, God will continue to give to you everything that you need even after Thanksgiving ends. God doesn’t give to you for just one day and not acknowledge the other days. So should your thankfulness never be limited to just one day. Share what you have with others and especially those in need . Imagine if you were in their shoes or if you were in their shoes remember how you felt, how hopeful you were to receive something you needed so badly.. God loves a generous giver and he will always make sure you and your household never lacks (That’s scripture), o that you can continue to give and have enough for yourself . Happy Thanksgiving !
