Be encouraged in your trial

"Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. "- James 1:1-4

A trial can be defined as :

  • the act of undergoing testing.

  • an annoying or frustrating or catastrophic event.

  • a test of performance, qualities, or sustainability of someone or something.

Maybe you are currently in a season where everything seems to be falling apart. The carnal mind calls this "bad luck". However, if you are looking at this from a spiritual perspective it may be that you are in the midst of a trial.

Just as the definition suggests above a trial can seem catastrophic. A trial does damage and uproots everything that has not been firmly secured. Trials can also reveal a person's level of sustainability. If something or someone is not equipped with the things needed to sustain a catastrophic event that person or thing will not be able to withstand the excessive force.

Are you equipped spiritually to withstand excessive force?

Paul makes mention that we will experience trials of various kinds. This tells us that we all will experience trials and that we all will experience them more than once. However, you also have to notice that these various trials will work together for the goodness of our faith. Trials are uncomfortable but they are necessary and so is your perspective. Know that although your trials may be uncomfortable they are doing a work deep within you that you can not yet see. Know that trials don't last always and once the storm has passed it will produce a beautiful effect. One where you will be perfect and complete and lacking in nothing.

You will not be lacking in your faith, in your character, or in your sustainability.

If you are currently experiencing a trial right now do not give up, instead fix your focus. Go through your trial with joy and allow it to run its course so that it may have its full effect on you. Ask yourself what areas in your life are you unsustained in? Could it be your faith, patience, or the taming of your tongue?

As you go throughout your week whatever area(s) seem to be targeted bring them to the Lord and ask him to reveal to you things you need to work on.
